Sharapova Is At It Again
Maria Sharapova remains in the top draw at this week’s Bank of the West classic. Over 3,000 fans showed up at Stanford’s Taube Family Tennis Stadium on Tuesday, July 27th, to watch her match with Jie Zheng. “She’s a great player,” said Sharapova, who is ranked 15th. Zheng has a current ranking of 23rd. Her hard-hitting method of play gave Sharapova a run for her money, but in the end, the Russian prevailed. This match was on a hard court, Sharapova’s first since last spring when, coincidentally enough, Zheng defeated her in three sets. Sharapova refers to the match as “scratchy,” explaining that she “wasn’t feeling too good there.” As for right now, however, it seems that she is feeling just fine.
